As the temperatures get colder and winter heating season nears, homeowners make sure their furnaces are working properly.

Any fuel-burning machine can be the source of carbon monoxide. So it’s good to get a check-up on your furnace every year to make sure it’s working properly.

Minnesota law says CO detectors must be installed within 10 feet from bedrooms. The detector should have a plug-in detector with a battery back-up.

And if there is a problem with carbon monoxide in your home, symptoms include a severe headache, nausea and severe fatigue.
